Early 2023 for us at the studio was marked by a collaboration with aist
Abdulaye Konaté, for whom we embroidered and assembled by hand
two large scale mural works, showed during the ‘Muwayia’s Thread’
collective exhibition at Le 32 Bis A center in Tunis, gathering Tunisian
and International contemporary aists and curated by Franco-Egyptian
curator Nadine Atallah.
Made from an assemblage of rectangular pieces of fabric dyed in
dierent shades of color, Konaté’s mosaic-like tableaux are perceived
up close as abstractions.
From afar, they show a sun illuminating a horizon, the soft light or
burning flame of a ‘fitna’ (Arabic for Discord and Conspiracy, the theme
of the exhibition), which in Mali, also means a traditional oil lamp.
Each tableau is 300W x 255H cm.
